Affiliate Programs are like franchises of a business. Like
branches of a main shop, or additional outlets for a product
that is being sold.
Many website owners make use of other peoples' products/services
by offering them on their own website. This is done to offer
one's own readers that something extra, to create extra income
and to be able to sell more of one's own product/service through
add-ons and accessories one cannot or don't want to offer
oneself, or to simply be a reseller of something.

on your website in some way and you get commission for each

their desired product/service. That link can be as elaborate

How do you get paid?
ClickBank (the online service that handles the money) tracks
the reader's moves, handles his purchase, and automatically
sends off payment to me and a commission cheque to you. Neither
one of us has to do anything!

Ideally Affiliate programs should either compliment your
website in some way or be somehow related to the content of
your website for best results. Either way, they create some
money for you that you don't have to work for!
Some people run online shops that are entirely stocked with
affiliate products, and make money this way without even having
a product of their own to sell!
