Aphids

Leaves curled, distorted, small insects.

 

Spray with Malathion, Rogor, Mavrik or Beat-a-Bug natural insecticide.


 

  Botrytis

Brown spots and blotches. Fuzzy grey growth if conditions are humid.

 

Remove diseased and dead plant parts. Don't grow plants under crowded and damp conditions where there is no air movements and don't splash water on foliage.

 

 
  Mealybug

White fluffy or waxy insects.

 

Wipe off leaves where possible and treat with Malathion, Rogor or Beat-a-Bug natural insecticide. Discard severly infested plants as others nearby are likely to become infested as well.

 

 
  Mites

Leaves yellow and stippled, may fall. Spider webbing may be present.

 

 

Control with miticides or insecticides like Rogor or Mavrik.
Natural enemy: Ladybird

 

 
  Powdery Mildew

Faint white spots that gradually enlarge to cover the whole leaf and sometimes the stems.

 

 

Control with fungicides such as Mancozeb Plus, Bayleton, Baycor or Benlate.

 

 
  Scale Insects

Reddish, grey or brown scaly bumps.

  Spray with White Oil.

  Draughts

Leaves yellow and fall. Leaves curl and fall. Brown tips or edges.

 

 
  Too cold

Leaves curl, brown and fall.

 

 
  Too hot

Spindly growth even in good light. Flowers are short lived. Lower leaves wilt, brown and fall.

 

 
  Not enough humidity

Leaf tips brown and shrivelled, edges yellow, buds and flowers shrivel and fall.

 

 
 

Not enough water

Leaves curled and spotted, yellowing of lower leaves.

 

 
  Too much water

Leaves become limp, possibly some soft areas, poor growth, leaves curl, leaves yellow and wilt, tips may brown.

 

 
  Not enough light

Leaves are smaller and paler than normal, turn yellow and fall. Few or no flowers. Spindly growth, long spaces between leaves. Variegated leaves turn green.

 

 
  Too much light

Discolored or scorched leaves (usually due to direct sunlight).
