Description

The Chrysanthemum genus is a large one and has many different types.

Chrysanthemum chalet is a prolific "weedy" type that grows to about 30cm and produces flowers practically all year long. It makes an excellent bedding plant, but is just as is useful for rockeries or even as small cut flowers.

The small (3cm) daisy-like flowers are white with bright yellow centres almost bare stems emerging from the foliage.

Growing

Choose a warm sunny spot, avoid shady areas and keep fairly sheltered from wind. Otherwise little care is needed.

Chrysanthemum chalet grows well in a variety of soils, but dislikes a poorly drained situation. It is therefore recommended to prepare the bed with garden compost and mixed fertiliser before planting to assure a friable soil.

Propagation from seed best sown in spring. Seedlings will emerge within 10-14 days and are ready to be planted out when 7-10cm high. Once established the plant will take care of itself and will self-seed continually.

Feed with liquid fertilisers if you must, but Chrysanthemum chalet will easily prosper without your help!
