Description

Dombeya has some 220 species of evergreen, deciduous or semi-deciduous shrubs or trees of which only few are cultivated.


Dombeya tiliacea is a small tree (8m) with fine foliage and produces clusters of white bell-shaped scented flowers in late summer and autumn that turn brown as they age.


Useful as a background plant against a fence, or to fill a corner.

Growing

Dombeya is very hardy and grows quickly, but needs a well-drained, fertile soil.
Best grown in full sun to part shade.

Prune after flowering.

Propagation by seed in spring, or by cuttings in summer.

Prefers moderate to warm conditions.
