Description

Native to southern Africa, this adaptable evergreen shrub with deep green, oval, toothed, leathery leaves grows to 3 m (10 ft) high and even greater spread. It has star-shaped, mauve-pink flowers about 3-4 cm across during spring and summer. The flowers have pink sepals the same size and color as the petals, making them appear double-flowered and are followed by purple-red, 4-lobed berries.

Growing

Grewia are mostly frost tender to marginally frost hardy and prefer a sheltered, sunny position with well-drained and rich soil.

Prune frequently to maintain a compact habit.

Propagate from cuttings or seed.
