Lonicera

Common name: Honeysuckle

sunwater

Description

A scented climber, in the right place Lonicera are one of the easiest and rewarding plants to grow. There are many species of Lonicera that include climbers, groundcovers and shrubs, all of them very hardy.
The fragrant spring/summer flowers come in shades of creamy-white, yellow, pink or red, depending on the species.

The flowers make a nice cut flower.

Growing

Lonicera are very adaptable to climate and soil and require more sun than shade to produce masses of flowers.

Prune hard after flowering to keep the plant in check. Being a vigorous climber they can sometimes get out of hand.

Cuttings can be taken in late winter or layering, to produce plantlets.

On the whole, the common Honeysuckle vine is an easy plant to grow over the garden shed or to hide the old fence down the back.

All climates.
