Description
Dense, slow-growing, evergreen shrub up to 4.5m in height,
that ideally should be grown near an entrance, window, or a
doorway to get the full impact of its delicious fruity fragrance
tha is stronger at night. (In a container it rarely exceeds
2m).
Small, glossy, bright green leaves and during spring and summer
tiny beige-purple and red flowers emit a heady, fruity scent
rather like bananas or vintage port.

Growing
Best in a sunny position but does well in semi shade too. Needs
a well drained and reasonable fertile soil (neutral to acid)
and some shelter from strong winds.
Pruning is rarely necessary, but does produce abundant new
flowering growth.
Propagate from seed in autumn or spring or from summer cuttings.
Michelias resent being transplanted.
Temperate and cool climates (preferably frost-free climates).
