Description

Attractive evergreen shrub with lance shaped, leathery leaves and masses of flowers from early summer to late autumn. Usually a rounded shrub of 3-5 m but withstands pruning to a single stemmed tree form, if desired.

Flower colours are white, cream, yellow, pink and red.

Growing

Grows in almost any soil and in full sun as well as in semi-shade.

Given fertile soil, abundant water in summer and a sunny position it will flower profusely all through summer and autumn. More sun = more flowers.

Prune back in late winter to about a third of their height every three years to keep it bushy.

Does well in heat and dry conditions of the inland as well as in coastal regions or the tropics. Tolerates strong winds and salt spray.

Propagate from cuttings that will develop roots in a jar of water.

All but cold climates.
