Sisyrinchium

Common name:

Description

Ground hugging perennial that produces clusters of small purple flowers with yellow throats at the end of long stalks during spring and summer.

Two types are available. The larger variety shown here (S. graminoides) grows to 60cm and extends leaves and flower stems into all directions, much like the growth habit of carnations.

The smaller variety only reaches 10-15cm, has a less messy looking appearance and thus is more suitable as a groundcover.

Growing

Grows in clumps. Propagate by division in late summer.
